Our NOC
The KDL Network Operations Center
The KDL Network Operation Center monitors the network around the clock from Evansville, Indiana. We have a redundant NOC in Brookfield, WI which houses our back up support. We employ a multi-tiered management approach with dedicated and highly trained engineers, maintenance, and monitoring personnel that oversee all aspects of the KDL network 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our monitoring staff uses HP OpenView software, augmented with Cisco’s Network Manager and Nortel’s Preside software running on redundant and diversely located server systems. KDL has deployed additional systems, including a fully automated Trouble Ticketing System that provides automated dispatching, escalation, notification, tracking, reporting and remote access. From the KDL NOC, we:
- Monitor all facilities, network elements, and cable routes for performance, access control, security, and environmental conditions. Our system provides for a strict facility access regulation process, real time network element performance management, cable maintenance, facility maintenance, and housekeeping and environmental monitoring and alarm response.
- Schedule and coordinate all network maintenance activity and coordinate all intrusion risks to buried fiber cable through the Call-Before-You-Dig program.
- Monitor and troubleshoot all performance statistics and alarms on our optical network elements, DWDM/MSTP network, and our Cisco switches operating on a 10Gbps backbone ring network.
- Manage and coordinate the KDL circuit turn-up and testing procedures for all customers. We also coordinate the turn-up and testing of customer off-net services, such as local loops, multiplexers, and cross connects with other carriers.
- To ensure a coordinated response to network alarms, KDL has implemented an audible announcement system that uses speech notification with detailed information regarding the alarm, alarm type, location and device, down to the port level.
Our NOC technicians are fully trained in every aspect of the KDL network, its equipment and support systems. They are provided with comprehensive and detailed documentation of all systems, elements and procedures that are currently deployed in the network. The NOC technicians participate in an ever-escalating Cisco training regimen that keeps them current with all aspects of the KDL network optical equipment, and its operating procedures.
